About Trinity

Founded by Christian families, for Christian families.

Trinity began in 2017 with a handful of children in a dining-room. Today it is a registered not-for-profit school teaching Grade R to Grade 9,with plans to grow to grade 12 — and the reason for starting it has not changed.

Our story

Trinity School was started in 2017 by Grant and Deborah Stein, who had long held a vision for Classical Christian Education.

The school began with a playgroup in their dining room. One by one, other families caught the vision as Deborah taught their children — and what started as a handful of pupils became a school.

Today, Trinity Classical Christian School is a registered not-for-profit company with 22 staff members. We still have a preschool focused on learning through play, but now also have Grammar School classes from Grade 1 to Grade 7, a high school teaching Grades 8 and 9, and plans to grow to Grade 12 year-by-year.

Deborah Stein continues to set the vision as Principal, and Grant Stein serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Classes are added year by year as the first children move up through the school. By 2026 the first group of children who started in the playgroup are now in Grade 8.

  4. Today

    Grade R to Grade 9

A registered not-for-profit with more than 15 full-time staff and 7 part-time staff, a preschool that still learns through play, and a high school in its early years. The current Grade 8s will reach Grade 12 in 2030.

The school started with a vision for education that doesn't ask "What will my child do?" but "Who will my child become?"
At the centre of our vision for education is the God to whom all children belong.

Our mission

Young men and women who leave Trinity rooted in Christ — able to think clearly, live faithfully, and lead courageously.

That vision has not changed since the first lesson around a dining-room table. We want an education that forms the whole person — mind, character, and faith — and sends young people into the world prepared to shape it rather than retreat from it.

Discamus et vivamus ad gloriam Dei

Let us learn and live to the glory of God — the motto carried on the Trinity crest.

The values we teach by

Values are not merely a poster in the corridor. Founded on Christ and derived from Scripture, these are things our teachers are asking...

Truth

We teach that truth is real, knowable and worth pursuing — and that it does not change to suit the moment.

Wisdom

Knowledge is the beginning, not the goal. We want children who know what to do with what they know.

Character

Character is formed by habit long before it is formed by assembly talks. It is built in small, daily expectations.

Service

Gifts are given to be used for other people. Our students are taught to notice need, and to act on it.

Courage

Conviction is easy in agreement and costly under pressure. We prepare children for the second.

Joy

Childhood is not a waiting room for adult life. Learning here is meant to be a delight, not a chore.

Leadership and staff

A school is only as good as the adults in it. Trinity is led by its founders and staffed with teachers who consider themselves called not only to education, but to the deliberate formation and discipleship of children, for the glory of God. All leadership and staff at Trinity are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and have a desire to see each child grow in their knowledge and love of the Lord.

Deborah Stein

School Director

Deborah taught the first Trinity children in her own dining room in 2017 and continues to set the vision and academic direction of the school. Deborah is responsible for the pastoral well-being of staff and guides the discipleship of the children. She teaches Latin from Grade 3 – Grade 9, and High School Literature.

Grant Stein

Chairman, Board of Directors

Grant chairs the board of the not-for-profit company that governs Trinity, and has carried the vision for Classical Christian Education in Cape Town since before the school opened. Grant teaches in the high school, and oversees matters relating to school governance.

Elmarie Schorr

Deputy Principal

Elmarie has over 3 decades teaching experience, with more than half of that time spent in school management. In addition to overseeing the academic standard of the curriculum and providing support and guidance to Grammar School teachers, Elmarie teaches Afrikaans to the Grade 4-6 students.

Ruth Le Roux

Head of Preschool

Ruth has taught at Trinity almost from the start, and is committed to ensuring children are socially, emotionally, and academically ready for Grade One – without pressure being placed on them to perform. She is responsible for the preschool and Grade R, where learning happens through play, and childhood is given back to children.

Our teachers

Our teachers are committed to a Classical Christian curriculum because of an ever-increasing conviction that this way of teaching chimes with the way God designed children to learn. What lies behind their commitment to the curriculum is a love for children, and the foundation of their love for the children they teach is their love for the Lord they serve.

Why Trinity?

Eight reasons families choose us — and, below them, the reasons some families choose a different option.

Faith and academics are not separated.

A biblical worldview shapes how every subject is taught and every child discipled, rather than the Bible being put back on the shelf when assembly is over.

Teachers who know your child by name.

Small classes mean strengths, struggles, gifts, and personality are noticed in the first term, not the third.

A curriculum built on how children develop.

Knowledge first, then the reasoning to test it, then the ability to express it well.

Latin, logic, and rhetoric.

Not nostalgia — the tools that build vocabulary, attention, memory and disciplined argument. Critical thinking is the genuine outcome rather than a mere buzz word.

Parents as partners, not spectators.

The school reinforces what is being built at home instead of competing with it.

One community, many churches.

Trinity families come from a range of churches and denominations, united by shared convictions and a common love for Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Academics you can check.

Our curriculum surpasses South African requirements and is benchmarked annually using the ACER International Benchmark Tests.

Prepared for the world, not protected from it.

We want to nurture students who can eventually hold a conviction under pressure without becoming defensive or fragile.

Trinity is probably right for your family if…

  • You want your child’s education and your family’s faith to say the same thing.
  • You would rather your child be known by their teachers than lost in a large year group.
  • You value skillful reading, discussion, and writing over teaching to the test.
  • You are willing to be involved — parent evenings, reading at home, the occasional working Saturday.

Trinity is probably not the right fit if…

  • You are looking for a large school with extensive facilities and a wide range of sports codes.
  • You would prefer faith kept separate from the academic day.
  • You want a curriculum that puts exam technique above everything else.
  • You are looking for a school that will take sole responsibility for your child’s formation.

The honest answer to most of the questions on this page is that you will know within an hour of walking through the school. Book a visit, meet the teachers, and ask us the difficult ones.
